Leadership Models that produce Powerful Leaders

August 19, 2021 in Uncategorized

Leadership Models produce great leaders and they have a great impact on the success of an organization, their habits, action and decisions can make a considerable contribution to the organization’s success. It is expected that a leader should have superior characteristics, which can inspire employees to achieve an organization’s goals.

Hence, such traits as a sense of community, responsiveness, honesty, creativity, confidence, or a positive attitude towards workers create leadership models for a powerful leader.

So what are these models, and how do they work?

1. Transformational

When a leader follows the transformational model of managing employees, they can provide quite effective support of its operation by inspiring workers.

Although such managers can be considered quite demanding, they motivate individuals to perform their job duties “beyond the expected levels” and “think beyond self-interest” since they show “positive qualities and ethics,” as Opoku and Ahmed noted in Leadership and Sustainability in the Built Environment.

Such a model of leadership is quite effective in achieving organizational goals.

Key Traits of Transformational Leaders

  • Inspiring
  • Demanding
  • Motivating
  • Positive
  • Focused

2. Charismatic

The charismatic leadership model is no less effective than a transformational one since it also includes creating enthusiasm for the team.

However, in contrast, this one implies that a leader shapes other people’s values instead of making them work beyond requirements.

So a charismatic leader can achieve a company’s goals via personal “characters and behaviors” because they are communicative and responsive.

Key Traits of Charismatic Leaders

  • Values Focused
  • Great Communicators
  • Responsive to Others
  • Engaging
  • Unifying

3. Ethical

Ethical leadership is a useful model to manage a team. An ethical manager’s personality consists of honesty, empathy, and being principled.

Consequently, such a leader follows their own ethics, providing employees with fair rewards and reasonable criticisms.

Moreover, ethical leaders are good at decision-making because their thinking is primarily moved by logic and justice, but not always emotions and feelings.

There may be no doubt that the manager, following an ethical leadership model, will perform consistently for the team and the company’s goals.

Key Traits of Ethical Leaders

  • Honest
  • Moral Standards
  • Truthful
  • Fair
  • Virtuous

4. Laissez-faire

A laissez-faire model of leadership contains both the pros and cons of its implementation.

On the one hand, laissez-faire leaders let their employees do the job and make decisions by themselves. And it can be considered as a positive and beneficial action when workers are entirely educated, experienced, and skilled.

On the other hand, such passiveness in performing leadership duties can lead to such an issue as uncontrolled production. I can note that laissez-faire leaders have a lack of motivational influence on employees.

For instance, when the manager takes a small part in performing a job, their opinion about work can be considered insufficient.

Key Traits of Laissez-Fair Leaders

  • Hands Off Style
  • Self Directed Teams
  • Individual Freedom of Choice
  • Push Decisions Down
  • Easy Going

Leadership Models produce great leader

5. Bureaucratic

The bureaucratic leadership model is quite useful in the field of production. Such leaders are primarily moved by established rules, standards, and norms.

Thus, while working with mechanisms requires following safety regulations and properly using the equipment, the bureaucratic leader can control these processes effectively.

However, it is also necessary to take into account that the bureaucratic leadership model has a lack of flexibility. So it can harm performance if the leader works with creative tasks.

Key Traits of Bureaucratic Leaders

  • Rules
  • Regulations
  • Status Quo
  • Controlling
  • Inflexible

6. Democratic

In contrast to more passive leadership models like laissez-faire and bureaucratic, a democratic model can really motivate team members to work effectively. This model goes about involving employees in the decision-making process.

So employees become more motivated to work, knowing their mission at a company. Even though such a model of leadership can lead to slow performance, the results pay off.

Being a democratic leader can be used in various fields of activity, both creative and routine.

Key Traits of Democratic Leaders

  • Motivating
  • Inclusive
  • Self Governing
  • Treats Everyone Equally
  • Compromising

7. Autocratic

One more model of leadership is autocratic, which is quite different from the above-noted models.

To exemplify, if a person follows the autocratic model, their team members will not have any chance to make suggestions concerning work.

While in creative work, the autocratic leadership model is not an effective way to manage employees; a routine job with no necessity for specific skills can benefit from such an approach.

However, my personal experience has shown that an autocratic leader lacks strong communication with employees, which harms relations between workers and managers.

Key Traits of Autocratic Leaders

  • Decisive
  • Total Control
  • Authoritative
  • Dictatorial
  • Domineering

Organizational Goals

In conclusion, it is worth saying that the listed models of leadership are effective in performing management. It is evident that all of them can not be without cons but can be implemented in all fields of activity.

Nevertheless, these models follow organizational goals and are useful in managing your team.

Potect yourself and your loved ones from COVID-19

April 11, 2020 in Business, Focus, Uncategorized

The coronavirus which is spreading like wildfire worldwide can be prevented if you protect yourself and your loved ones from iy – COVID-19. The battle to eradicate the pandemic is currently ongoing and even though there’s no cure for it yet, a lot of countries have begun managing the situation through aggressive awareness drives, and temporary suspension of activities which may enhance the spread of the virus. Here are some safety measures you need to keep in mind to protect yourself and your loved ones against the spread.

Wash hands with soap and water or use alcohol-based sanitizer: Maintaining good personal hygiene has been found to be effective in protecting against the virus. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has advised individuals to wash their hands for 20 seconds once in every 30 minutes or use a hand sanitizer with at least 70 percent alcohol content to clean hands in the absence of water.

Stay away If someone is coughing or sneezing: This is where social distancing comes into play. It’s advised to keep a distance of 6 feet from people, whether or not they are showing symptoms. This is because the virus can be transmitted through the respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks and these droplets can land in the mouth or nose of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.

Don’t touch your face or the faces of others: Keeping our hands off our faces can prove a very difficult task. Oftentimes we find ourselves scratching our nose, wiping our eyes, biting our fingernails or even picking a pimple. While washing the hands often may be a protective measure against the virus, touching the face with dirty hands can get anyone infected. How? The virus lives on metals and plastics for days so, if your hands touch these surfaces and you touch your face without washing them, you could get infected.

Stay home for as much as possible: Your house is the safest place to be right now until the pandemic blows over. Remember that some people without symptoms may be able to spread the virus. So, by all means, stay at home and limit your contact with the outside world to the barest minimum.

Self isolate if you experience symptoms: As the experts have explained, It takes 14 days to fully detect the coronavirus symptoms so, if while at home you begin coughing, sneezing, or having a fever, it’s best to self-isolate and call the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control to get help. This simple act can help protect your loved ones against the virus.

Teenage Programmers are fast becoming a norm, as technology is changing, employment models are becoming stale; Old status symbols like job titles, company cars and other perks aren’t attractive anymore. Instead, many workers are longing for freedom; happiness and purpose. With the progress in artificial intelligence, current types of jobs are declining which is creating new opportunities in technological sector particularly for developers and programmers etc.Programming has gone beyond being a hobby to a critical career skill

“When a country has the skill and self-confidence to take action against its biggest problems, it makes outsiders eager to be part of it “Bill Gates”. Youths i.e. Programmers are at the peak of contributing to the technological sector of the country thereby attracting more investors and problems are solved not only in the homeland but also worldwide

We have youths that are set to take over the technological sector in the country and Worldwide and also youths that have taken over with the likes of Nyemahame Allwell Worgu ,a 12 year old Nigerian Boy who is a certified Java programmer had an equal record set with another 12 years old Pakistani girl in mastering sun’s Java program, also he is part of the six Nigerians to represent the country at the upcoming computer Olympiad holding in Romania .

He also bared in mind urging youths to take chances addressing; I want to help and encourage people about things like this, because if they know about them, Nigeria will develop .Look at America, look at Britain, what is helping them today, is it not computers? Look at Singapore, this was a poor country, but just because of computers, they are growing in the world. Nigeria can get to such level if we try; there is no big deal about that.

However, platforms have been established to ensure that youths are taught programming languages such as PYTHON,JAVA,CSS,HTML etc, in order to contribute to the development of the country and Worldwide. Code Zone for Teens is one of the platforms created for learning programming languages, youth are brought together once again to learn ,have fun, be creative and majorly solve problems. As earlier explained here the concept of Code Zone is remarkable.

Code Zone for Teens program was initiated by the Director of Emerald Zone, Mrs.Akinloye ,a 3-week intensive program for youths to learn programming  languages to develop websites, software applications and many more. Recently, the first batch(Batch A) of the program ended successfully on 17th of August,2019 , presentations were held where parents and friends of teenagers got to see the end of the successful project completed by the students. FOCUS -Meditation

Focus

How many faces do you see?

Have you ever set a goal for a day ending up not accomplishing it?, then this is for you. Attention paves way for more ideas and more opportunities. The latest research is clear: the state of our attention determines the state of our lives. In today’s world, most people can’t focus because they have not learnt to focus and we don’t practice how to focus. So how do we harness our attention to focus?

Focus gives us foresight and far sight beyond what our ordinary eyes can see, in here you will get to see the relationship focus has with determination. A recent study pointed out the average adult spends about 1 hour 40 minutes every day on social media. Over 50 hours per month, 616 hours per year which means 128 days wasted every 5 years. Imagine if you replaced that wasted time with completely focused time, working on the person you would love to be in the next 5 years.

The opposite of focus is distraction. We are surrounded by distractions, whether we like them or not, it is up to us to disregard such distractions. If you want to make things great, shut out the distractions of the world and make your goal a priority. Steve Jobs once said ” people think focus means saying yes to what you’ve got to focus on, but that is not what it means at all, it means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that are there”. Focus is a skill, so we need to work on it to develop it.

Meditation is a popular technique for relaxation and stress relief that can significantly increase your ability to concentrate and focus.Meditation exercise  allows you to focus your attention on an object, sound or some other stimulus rather than trying to achieve a clear mind. For many people, this can feel easier than trying to focus on nothing or keeping a clear mind without a specific focal point.

Focused meditation is something that everyone can do at home without an instructor or teacher. All you need is a few minutes of time, a quiet place, and something to focus on. To reap any lasting benefits ,daily practice is required.

MMM.

August 15, 2019 in Uncategorized

Don’t despair. I am not talking about the other MMM, I am referring to Monday Morning Meeting. It is great to start your day and week with a plan of action. Usually this comes through from a very productive meeting.

#DaveBarry said “If you had to identify in one word the reason why the human race has not achieved and will never achieve its full potential, that word will be meeting”

Most meetings can turn out to be an extremely expensive waste of time. A recent survey showed that most corporate executives spend an average of 4 hours per day in meetings. Another survey returned a 47 percent vote that their prime time waster at work are meetings.

Heading for one today? Please ensure you make it very effective by keeping it timely, concise and focused. Have a highly productive week ahead

PEAK PERFORMANCE-Employees

August 15, 2019 in Professionalism, Uncategorized

Getting our performance to peak takes just an extra effort more. Water at 99 degrees is just hot, but at 100 degrees, water boils! If you let out the steam at 99 degrees, you will never enjoy the benefits and use of boiling water. Go that 1 more degree but if we give up , we may never get that pleasure that comes with peak performance .

Every successive firm established prioritize workers’ performance as a primary goal. Greater productivity and efficiency results in increased profit and market share; it’s that simple. When workers are not learning or improving, and are not motivated and committed to their assignment, the objectives, targets and business suffers.

However, with challenges faced, organizations firstly needs to acknowledge the contributions of the employees to the growth of the organization i.e. acknowledging the effort and time spent on a particular project or task motivates an employee. It improves morale among the staff. Employees are more likely to do their best if their contributions are recognized. It is also important to acknowledge achievements even if they are small. Managers and supervisors should appraise employees when they participate in a project. The staff will be willing to apply their creativity if they know that their contributions are valuable to the organization. Success is only possible if the employees are giving their best.

Employees should not dread reporting to work.  Work is important but your employees also need time to relax and unwind  once in a while. Organize some fun activities at least once a month.  People tend to be more focused when they are relaxed. Fun activities rejuvenate us and prepare us to deal with serious matters. If you are looking for ideas on how to improve employee performance, schedule a day of fun outside the office. Close the office a couple of hours earlier and offer snacks and games for employees to enjoy.

Organizations that do not know how to improve employee performance should begin by reviewing the kind of training that they offer. Staff performance can be improved through effective training. The training programs you design should equip employees with relevant skills. On-job training should aim to boost employee skills. Staff should be allowed to attend various workshops and conferences that are related to their work roles. An organization also needs to encourage its staff to take classes that will help them to improve. Training should not be limited to a particular period. It should be ongoing. Technology has made it possible for employees to go through training without disrupting their day-to-day activities. Online training programs allow the employees to learn required skills at their convenience. Once employees are equipped with the right kind of skills, they can carry out their roles more efficiently and this improves their performance.

Goals are paramount  if you are trying to learn how to improve employee performance. If an organization does not have goals, employees have nothing to work towards. It is difficult to boost performance if the employees do not know why they have to come to work every day. Successful organizations establish goals and communicate them to their employees. When there are goals in place, employees can direct their effort towards a shared vision. Sharing the company’s vision also makes employees feel that they are important stakeholders. This drives them to work harder to meet the established goals. It is actually easy for an organization learn how to improve employee performance. They also need to offer valuable training and ensure the work environment is positive. Employees need an opportunity to have fun and relax to energize them for work. Communication is also significant to encourage progress.

It’s time to get to the peak. Water at 99 degrees is just hot, but at 100 degrees, water boils! If you let out the steam at 99 degrees, you will never enjoy the benefits and use of boiling water. Go that 1 more degree. Go that extra mile to peak performance.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

August 15, 2019 in Uncategorized

Leadership comes with service.

Leaders must constantly look out for opportunities to give back to community to make a difference today and in the future. RSW 3.0 was such rare opportunity where about 350 professionals from different walks of life, volunteered 13 weekends of their time to prepare about 5000 final year students of the different tertiary institutions in Lagos, for the world of work. Thank you Gov. Ambode and SA Education of Lagos State for providing the platform.

The experience was terrific! You could practically see the transformation in the lives of the beneficial scholars. Truly ready and prepared to take on the world. Got me thinking – if we can all reach out with a little heart of service and sacrifice, we can change the narrative of the poor state of education in the country.

To all co-volunteers, was a pleasure coming with you in this journey, and to our super RSW graduates, the world of work and entrepreneurship is all laid out before you to explore. Take it on!!!

EXECUTIVE EDUCATION

August 15, 2019 in Uncategorized

As we get on our career paths and journey, one of the rare opportunities that comes along is an Executive or Business School education. The learning curve at this rung of the pyramid comes with a load of responsibility. Business School education is not only about the awards conferred, but the clarion call to step out and change the narrative to make business, community, society and nationhood much effective than you met it. It is getting beyond the ordinary. Thank you LBS for providing a world-class standard of education. Thank you Peter Amangbo for the charge and code of business conduct. We pledge to make a difference. So help me God!

FAILURE IS GOOD

August 15, 2019 in Uncategorized

We have all heard the term failure is an orphan, among other similar statements. No one wants to be associated with failure. We treat failure with a very long pole, with disdain. I also do. We are all dead right. However, I just got reminded that failure is actually good and should be embraced.
“If you are not making mistakes, then you are not making decisions” – Catherine Cook.
